2013 Chevy Malibu Eco with E-Assist

Chevy is getting the E-Assist technology already found in Buick's Regal and LaCrosse. GM Insidenews  has the details on the first Malibus being shipped.

Buick LaCrosse eASSIST™ Technology Delivers Premium Efficiency without Compromise

DETROIT ? The 2012 Buick LaCrosse with eAssist™ delivers an estimated 36 mpg on the highway, thanks to smart technology that doesn't require compromising the ride, performance or costs that typically accompany hybrids.

"The eAssist system integrates regenerative braking with the latest lithium-ion battery technology, for significant fuel-efficiency gains customers will enjoy," said Steve Poulos, global chief engineer of the eAssist system. "Providing electric boost to the powertrain system during heavy acceleration and grade driving helps the transmission operate more efficiently. The engine start-stop and fuel shut-off during deceleration features add to the fuel savings."

First Look: 2013 Chevrolet Malibu

If the Volt is the small-batch bourbon in General Motors' liquor cabinet, the Chevy Malibu is Pabst Blue Ribbon -- once as popular as the high-trim Chevelle of the 1960s, but watery discount liquor store stuff by the time the Corsica/Beretta replaced it in the '80s.

The Malibu's return for '97 was not pretty, but that prosaic model couldn't prepare Chevrolet loyalists for what followed: the 2004 Malibu/Maxx.

GMC plans to add Granite subcompact crossover

GMC dealers will get a shot at a new set of buyers starting in 2013, when General Motors is expected to launch its GMC Granite subcompact crossover.

That will diversify GMC beyond its core truck buyers, building on momentum from hot sales of its Terrain crossover. For the first time, GMC dealers will have a vehicle to fit urban lifestyles, one that can compete for shoppers with the Scion xB and Kia Soul.
